The Nymphs of Minoa

A rolled-up painting in N'liit's tent caught your attention the moment you unraveled it. It's a Beautiful Red-haired woman and her son. There's something different about them. Ethereal. He asks you if you've ever seen a Nymph before, or heard of the tragedy that befell the royals, and when you stare at him with big, blank eyes, his grin only grows ever-wider.A storyteller loves his stories, and you are in for a good one.

Species Info + Rules

What is a nymph?

Nymphs are a species that inhabits Minoa.
Their telltale features include plants, bugs, and ledioptera.

They are currently an NPC Species and unable to be owned.
They will become available during an event at a later date.

Species notes

Nymphs are a very High Class Species. They tend to be prim and proper.

Naming Conventions

Nymphs often have very natural sounding names.
It's not uncommon for babies to be named after their major trait.
It is very common for names to repeat, especially Floral ones.
Nymphs live for hundreds of years, and do not mind sharing them.

Cultural Beliefs

  • Nymphs do not believe in Gods. They only believe in the Royal Family.

  • Nymphs live in a High Class, yet Lazy society. They spend most days perfecting the same tasks they've done for hundreds of years.

  • They are a very by the book society. It is INCREDIBLY unsual to have a Nymph that goes against the grain.

  • Most Nymphs live in expansive wooden homes threaded into canopies of trees that have been around for thousands of years.

  • The Royals live in a Marble Tower at the edge of the Eternal Lake.

Nymphs and Nomads

  • It is very common for Nymphs to leave Eldervine in search of adventure, and come back with little Nomads of their own.

  • It is even more common for Nymphs to leave these babies with wet nursemaids, who will then teach them how to take care of the house and the needs of their Nymph parent.

  • They are never held to the same standard as full-blooded Nymph children. Emperor rules that they will not even receive the same educations.

  • There are many Nymphs who disagree with this- but who would ever go against Emperor?

The Tragedy

N'liit seems ever so apprehensive about telling you this tale.

It's not something they like to talk about,

He explains it to you slowly, and accentuates with his hands
every part of his story.

The death of the empress

Eldervine has been in deep mourning since the passing of their Empress.
It was so sudden; one day she was in the streets, talking to the Nomad community and insisting publicly that she would do her best to be sure they would all be full, comfortable citizens before the wintertime set in.

N'liit shows a kind of genuinity here
that you haven't seen from him before. Tired, almost rattled.
He seems to be deep in thought.

As you can see now, it's close to the first snowfall with no changes.
It was almost overnight. She went from being bright, happy, and full of laughter, to gaunt with sickness in mere days. It took her soon after.

He rolls up the painting you viewed earlier and tucks it away on it's own shelf. It's clear from the baubles and knickknacks here that maybe he had known her personally. When he speaks next, his back is to you.
You can see the sorrow in his shoulders.

Emperor's sons have convinced a lot of the higher class that she was poisoned by someone when she visited the streets. But I think those boys have been lied to. I think the snake lives in their own home.

The Hierarchy

Nymphs don't believe in any of the Gods as we do.They believe in the Royal Family, and
more importantly, the Word of Emperor.

✧ Emperor and Empress✧

Archs of the Royal Family

  • Emperor is a very stern man. He is as strong as he is wise.

  • There is a reason he is in his position.

  • He takes his job seriously and he does it well.

  • He doesn't take insubordination kindly. From anyone. Foe or Family.

  • Empress was one of the kindest women to ever live.

  • Eldervine, normally colorful and vibrant, has been in brown mourning since her passing. It has been a few months already, but to people who live forever, what is a month but a second?

  • She put her family first and everything else second.

  • It is unfortunate these things happened as they did.

✧ EDAN✧

The Eldest Son. Heir to the Throne.

  • He is nearly as stern as his father, but has his mother's kindness.

  • Edan is convinced the Nomads are behind the death of his Mother. But, he knows she would not have wanted them to suffer for one person's actions. He does what he can to prevent the worst.

✧ Oake ✧

The Second Son.

  • Don't talk to him.

  • He will not answer you.

  • You are not worth a response.

✧ Olive✧

The Firstborn Daughter.

  • Olive is very sweet. She stays out of conflict.

  • She tends to stay in quiet spots and sew. She doesn't like it loud.

✧ Merlin✧

The Last in Line, but the Smartest.

  • Merlin spends most of his time reading. He doesn't have time for his brother's conflicts.

  • Merlin thinks that his mother died from an unknown sickness, no poisons involved. He spends a lot of time researching rare Nymph diseases. He is no closer than when he started.

✧ Finch✧

Nomad Recordkeeper

  • He is almost always seen carrying papers and books.

  • Any actual work that needs to be done, Finch is the one doing it.

  • He has picked up almost all of Empress's paperwork, instead of allowing Olive's father to force her to mature any earlier.

  • He loves to see the kids being kids. The anger growing in the two oldest is something that scares him, and he worries for them.

The Immortal isles

The Immortal Isles, or "Eldervine" as it is known, is the home of all Nymphs. It is centuries old, with some Nymphs being older than written Minoan History.

  • The Main Monument of Eldervine is the Eternal Lake.

  • It's water is a shimmering turquoise, with almost no visibility at all until the New Moon. With the lack of any reflection at night, it becomes clear what's at the bottom of the lake; a sunken castle made of stone.

  • Nobody knows how, when, or why the castle ended up at the bottom of the Eternal Lake, but some believe it to be what remains of an old Nymphian Fairytale. Nobody has been able to confirm, as the castle lies at least twenty miles under the surface.

  • It is said that the Lake is the cause of the Nymph's eternal lives. They are tied to it, as are the rest of the native inhabitants of the Immortal Isles.

Parental Traits

Parental Traits and the Kin Trait System
are a new addition with Nymphs.
Nymphs have very old blood -no, not that kind of Old Blood- and their traits tend to be very ancient and rooted across Minoa.

The Parental Trait System is in concept, very simple.
Some traits that appear most often on Nymphs are incredibly old, and hard to pass to newer species, such as Nomads.
However, they do have correlated genes
that pass more often; from those same traits!
Sometimes, traits that are very rare to Minoans will pass easily from Nymphs. They are very good at throwing fails!

A Few Examples....

Parental TraitKin Traits (Failures)
Birch StripesFeline Stripes, Feline Spots, Tidal Stripes, Feline Tail, Nomad Nose
Moth CollarDewlap, Arm Patches, Hip Patches, Ankle Patches, Ear Patches, Rib Patches, Lycan, Dire Mane
Twisted CrownRoot Horns, Quad Horns, Antlers, Skull Piercing Horns

Parental Traits open the door for even more creativity when it comes to designs for Minoans and Nomads. In theory, if someone was to breed a Minoan with Frozen Horns to a Nymph with Birch Stripes, they could end up with two or more piety traits on a single Minoan- from different locked tribes!
